The 5 Principles> Snapshot to 'The BOUNCE Theory' book

1.                  Crisis moments create opportunity (Change Leadership)

Problems and crises ignite our greatest creativity and thought leadership as it forces us to focus on things outside the norm.

  • Unpacking the cycle of a crisis moment
  • Discovering frustrations as it leads to change
  • The uncovering of real problems to create real solutions

Metaphor:  It’s like when we run out of money or we are very low in our budget this week, we discover new opportunities where to save more and make more and realize that every dollar counts.

2.                  Focus on causes not symptoms (Future Focus)

To often we focus on the symptoms, yet focussing on the causes gets to the root of the issue where real change can take place.

  • The truth about delusional thinking
  • Navigating strategic solutions
  • Exploring the power of the source

Metaphor: You know when we meet someone with a bad attitude. We judge by what we see, but do not see the whole picture in it’s entirety.  Until we find out the cause and address that, the symptoms will still persist…

3.                  Holding Hands in Traffic (Alignment)

There is huge gain and greater productivity when the entire team is focussed on the one ‘mission’. Stay together!

  • Navigating the problems of disunity
  • Secrets of the one ‘mission’ ideology
  • Craving alignment that works

Metaphor: When I woke up from a 7 day coma, my entire family was right their by my side. When the doctors said to me that I had lost my  arm and I would never walk again, it was my family that helped me get through.

4.                  Bouncing forward not back (Future Thinking)

Bouncing back focuses on what was. Bouncing forward focuses on what can become.

  • Understanding a recognising the turning point
  • The importance of positive forward thinking
  • Creating space for the new

Metaphor: Nelson Mandela said in his recent biography called ‘Long Walk to Freedom’, he said: Forget the things of the past and press forward to what lies ahead.

5.                  Different problem different thinking (Sustainability)

You cannot use the same methods that got you into the mess to get you out. You also can-not use the those same methods to get you out of the next mess.

  • Leading innovation and creativity
  • Being the architect of sustainability
  • Knowing that’s is a decision not the condition

Metaphor:  I’ve overcoming my accident, and then overcoming my screaming child. Different problem, different solution.
