Impossible Blog

When we have a HIT, we can find it HARD to… GET BACK UP

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it.
Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion.
Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare.
Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary, Impossible is nothing!”
- Muhammad Ali.

Bouncing back CAN happen! It can sometimes SEEM impossible.

Empowerment by Will Smith

We regularly see highly successful people and wonder how they got there or think “What do I have to do to get there?”

Bounce to great heights.

February 26th, 2010

The world tallest building is being opened this week in Dubai. It’s called the Burjdubai (www.burjdubai.com). It is 828mtrs tall and far surpasses the second highest building of just 600mtrs in Taipei. It’s fascinating that this 20 Billion dollar development was built on the back of a 2-year financial turndown. Samir Pradhan, a researcher at the Dubai-based Gulf Research Center was quoted recently saying that the Dubai construction sector has been the hardest hit in the world.
The future is changing and we need to embrace the change and “Bounce” back from the crisis stronghold that blinds so many people and organizations. “Crises come and go,” said Mohamed Alabbar, chairman of developer Emaar Properties, at a media event ahead of the opening of Burj Dubai (the Worlds Tallest Building) Monday evening. “We must have hope and optimism and we must move on. I hope that this is the beginning of the gradual move forward.”

Bouncing back after hard times are hard but a necessity if you crave survival. The best people and organizations of the future will need to overcome crises quickly, constantly restructuring themselves to adapt to changing circumstances and new opportunities through tough times.
It all starts from positive speaking, even if you are in the mist of the crisis. We need to speak optimism into our businesses and personal lives. This brings encouragement and empowerment to the situation. Did you know that pessimist get things right more often as they see the status quo… But optimists are the World Changes as they see the world the way it can become!!!

What will you leave?

February 26th, 2010

What will you leave?

What is the one thing that you would like to be remembered by??? It may not be just the one thing, but what is the legacy that you would like people to say about you when they think about you???

I’m so proud of my parents…. So proud!!! When I was growing up and living with them I thought that they were way too strict on us, and I thought that I lived under a dictatorship. I was smacked with a stick on numerous occasions and was forced to do chores every single day. (Looking back on it now it was the BEST thing for me) But now things have changed, I’ve grown up and can see my parents in a whole different light…

My parents have never owned their own house, they have never lived a rich life style, they have never had a new car and have never lived beyond our means and never (until recently) owned a credit card. Yet they have always managed to get through with 11 children. We grew our own fruit and veggie’s, we killed our own meat and always had full tummies. We were certainly blessed!

Just a couple of months ago my parents moved to India for a year. It has been their dream to move there and just help the villages and, you could say do some mission work. So at 70 years old, here they are achieving their life long dream. I had the amazing opportunity last week to visit them in India just 2hours NW of Kolkata one of the biggest cities in India and also where Mother Teresa was based from. The town was called Kharagpur and it was the same place where my mother grew up.

What my parents are doing their just blows me away. My mother has made connections in the local Kindergarten and Primary schools and regularly visits throughout the week and teaches them Christian songs. When I visited the school a was nearly in tears seeing hundreds of young kids singing and doing the actions to all the songs that they taught me when I was growing up. It was just AWESOME!!!!

My father regularly visits the local villages where he just connects with them and encourages them all when he can. He invests time and money supporting their education and food. He is a true hero as he has the option to retire in a nice house here in Australia and just let life pass him by. But he choices to live in India and chooses to support the villages and helps where he can. He is one of the only white people in the entire town and has picked up the language up very well. How many 70 year olds have you met that is learning a language, just started on his life long dream, and lives & supports villages in 3rd world countries???

I’m so very proud of my parents and what they are currently doing. I feel blessed and truly honored to have amazing mentors in my life. Sometimes we think that being successful is a good legacy, or leaving 20 houses and 10 cars for our family is the best legacy. But I think that my parents are leaving a legacy behind that is compared to the very best of people that ever lived…

What will you leave???????

My brother recently passed away… this is a tribute of his memory!

Bounce

October 18th, 2009

Have you ever wondered why some people find it so easy to bounce back after a crisis yet others find it nearly impossible? We see some people, after having a major crisis in their lives, bounce back so easily and even sometimes create more opportunities within their lives after they have had a major crisis. We also see businesses bounce back sometimes more stronger after having a major crisis, or even sometimes more then 2 or 3 crises straight after each other yet they still manage to find greater opportunities.

Then you have other people that when they have a crisis in their lives everything changes for the worst. After one crisis everything just seems to go wrong, and within a short period of time they seem completely in a different place as to when the first crisis happened. Same with businesses, after just one crisis comes massive destruction and before to long the company has gone belly up… Why is this?

It’s interesting the people and businesses that are resilient to crisis and even turn crises into opportunities. But then on the other hand are some businesses and people that can not see the light at the end of the tunnel after a crisis. The Chinese have a 2 syllabus word for the word “crisis”; its ‘Danger and opportunity’. Crisis = Opportunity. But the BIG question is how do you discover the opportunity in the crisis especially when you are in the middle of it. We can all get so involved in the crisis and have the more reactive approach as in many cases it is the only option.

I would like to introduce you to a theory I’ve created that comes under the title of my new book called ‘Bounce’. When a ball “bounces” it hits a hard surface and bounces back, and in many cases it bounces higher then the position that it was thrown from. How to “Bounce” is a theory that every person and business needs to learn and develop, to ensure a sustainable and enduring life. If we do not Bounce we will suffocate under the crises that is life today. But if we can teach ourselves and our people to Bounce, there is a world full of unlimited opportunities and crises to be overcome.

We often hear stories about how a death in the town brings the community together or the family that’s going through a major crisis and their friends offer help. Crisis is the greatest change agent in discovering the new. You see things differently then before the crisis happened and you change rapidly to suit the current situation. You are out of your comfort zone and think more creatively as it is not familiar territory. You have not experienced this situation before so you are walking in the dark, exploring the unknown. Adrenalin is pumping, eyes are wide open, your brain is operating at maximum speed, fear is nowhere to be seen, and survival is our goal.

To “Bounce”, there are 8 indisputable keys that you need to posses in order to bounce back stronger, higher & better then you ever were or ever have been. These indisputable keys will ensure you have the Bounce that every person & business needs after crisis. Each key will unlock and awaken motivation and potential and help every person and organization handle crisis.

Stay tuned for the 8 Indisputable Keys to “Bounce”…

Why don’t I?

August 7th, 2009

I think you and me have only just scratched our fullest potential… Yes, that’s YOU I’m talking too.

You were created to be better than what you are right now; you know you can do better with everything you do. You know that you were meant to be more successful and more significant than who you are now. You know that you are not trying your absolute hardest at everything in life, you know that you can do better in nearly all areas of you life. You know that you have always known that their was something bigger, something better, something greater then what you are experiencing right now

So why??? Why why WHY!!!!!!

Halo

June 24th, 2009

I’m writing this on my new MacBook Pro I recently acquired… by the way, I totally LOVE it and can’t understand why I was for so long blinded by PC’s. Anyways….

I was listening to the song Halo recently by Beyonce and found out that it has been the number 1 song in over 15 different countries and I started to ask myself why? Why has it been so popular, and why do so many people love the song???

I’ll have to say that I’m quite impressed with the words, actually VERY impressed. I really enjoy this song and for those of you people that think… “OMG a Beyonce song… thats dumb” let me tell you that many of my mates that really do not get into Beyonce songs really like this one.

It’s an interesting song as the words she uses in are very unique for a pop song. words such as “awakening” and “grace”. So lets break this song down and find out why this song is such a popular song not just in this country but other around the world…

For starters, the beat of the song is pretty cool, it’s a catchy tune and a groovy, slow, dance beat. Its about seeing the BEST in people and seeing the angel within.

It’s interesting that the first line is about breaking down the walls… How many of us need walls broken down around our lives both from financial walls to insecurity walls to depression walls to emotional walls, and a lot of the time we build these walls ourselves, just like Beyonce explains…

The next lines in the song talks about finding ways to let people in and standing in the light. You know that alot of the time we don’t allow people to come in. We put these walls up, but she explains that we need to find ways of letting people in and to trust people a little more… yes we may have been burnt, but that does not give us the reason to shut people out of our lives.

The next line I love, it’s the word “awakened” which is a new ‘buzz word’ that people are now using. Just in the past 6 months I’ve known of over 5 conferences that have called the conference ‘Awaken’ or Awakening’… Then she talks about the risks that we take… Guys TAKE RISKS, it’s the only way to learn and move forward in life and your future!!!

And now the chorus… brilliant! “I’m surrounded by your embrace”. We sometimes feel so lonely, so isolated, as if people just can not understand us; I think we all crave to be surrounded by people that embrace us for who we are. Awesomeness!!! It then goes on to say one of my favorite lines in the song which is; “you’re my saving grace” Wow, don’t we all need a little grace in our lives… and thats all I’m gonna say about that!

Anyways, I’d love you to listen to the song, link below, and let me know your thoughts; I’ve included below a copy of the lyrics… iamSam

Halo lyrics

Songwriters: Bogart, Evan Kidd; Knowles, Beyonce Gisselle; Tedder, Ryan Benjamin;

Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they’re tumbling down
And they didn’t even put up a fight
They didn’t even make up a sound

I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

It’s like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
It’s the risk that I’m takin’
I ain’t never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace

You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You’re the only one that I want
Think I’m addicted to your light

I swore I’d never fall again
But this don’t even feel like falling
Gravity can’t forget
To pull me back to the ground again

Feels like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
The risk that I’m takin’
I’m never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace

You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
Halo, halo

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace

You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away

Slumdog v’s Marley

May 12th, 2009

Sometimes we need a little perspective. Yes, I travel lots, but there are other people that travel more then me. Yes, I think that having 3 children is heaps but there are so many more people out there that have more. Yes, sometimes I need to watch my spending habits but I am among the world wealthiest groups of people. And even today, I was thinking briefly about how annoying it was to sit on a small plane from Sydney to Bathurst, actually there was only 7 people on a 30+ seater plane. Yet there are so so so many more people out in the world that do not get the opportunities that I do yet I still think these things. Have I lost perspective on what really goes on around the world?

From Tasmania to Sydney, I talked to a guy that had a bandage on his right wrist, and curiosity got the better of me so I asked him what happened. He said that He just flew in from Afghanistan and had a bomb blast that went off near him, he then went on to explain that he nearly lost his hand in the blast. He then told me about the guy that was standing next to him, and he was not as lucky and lost both of his legs in the blast. He is now in USA being fitted with prosthetic legs.

Now looking at the last few weeks and thinking how many times did I complain? I think about how many times do we take everything for granted and then we think about how many hours over the past few weeks we may have just done absolutely nothing. Wow, if I look at it this way and then look at what this guy has gone through, really makes me think about perspective.

I watched a movie last night called ‘Marley and Me’. It’s got Friends star Jennifer Aniston in it and Owen Wilson. It is all about a dog, and I’m sure for a Dog lover has the potential to put a tear in ones eye. Now for the record, I have nothing against dogs, I just treasure people more then animal, or dog. Maybe I’m just a radical humanitarian, but I get awfully saddened when I see millions upon millions of dollars poured into animal rights and saving whales etc but what about people??? Now in fear of sounding completely heartless towards animals… why the heck are we spending time, money and resources on animals when there are still people in the world dying of basic needs such as clean water and food.

This just sounds so basic for me but the western world would tend not to agree. The reason I could justify this comment is a news story I read recently about 2 movies, Slumdog Millionaire and Marley and Me. They are both inspirational stories of love. Both have a story about believing in something and having faith. One has a sad ending, the other a happy ending. One shows the reality of poverty and realness of life and the other shows a story of life with no real problems. One is a story about people and rising out of burdens & problems to find love and opportunities through life experiences and the other is all about a dog. At this stage Marley and Me is selling DVDs sales better then Slumdog Millionaire….. Why??

For the record, Slumdog is not about a dog…
